The babies will be born blind and naked and round 3cm long. You may be able to hear them squeking in the first 14 days but after that they are quieter unless they are disturbed.
The mother will come out of her nest when she is sure the young are warm and comfortable. She wont stay out very long as the babies cant regulate their temperature and become cold easily.
The babies stipes will begin to show at about 7days old and they have their stripes and fur when they are 17days. hey start to venture the nest anywhere between 30-38days, ensure there is a platform infront of the nest if it is high up so the babies wont fall.
Offer the babies small peices of food such as cereal or oatmeal that they can pick up easily and add some dried milk powder tot he food which will give the babies extra calcium and supplementation.
The mothers milk will dry up by about the sixth week and then the young are on their own. Do not take the babies from her until the milk has gone otherwise her mammary glands might become enlarged and painful.
We took our babies away from their mum at about 2months old when we knew they were ready. From holding them everyday since they were 1week old they have become very tame and settled in really well with their new family and straight away jumped on them and sat on them without a worry and can be handled no problem.
